View Full Version : Next on my list - overscan

OK, I guess I have been bitten by the bug. After the success in electrostatic focus and service level convergence, I noticed on my DVE overscan test pattern that my TV is at about 5%. Seems that others here set it around 3% or so.
How does one go about doing this?
Also, the test pattern is slightly offset to one side (fine vertically, just needs to be pushed to the left a bit). Any guidance on these two tweaks?
As always, thanks in advance.

In the interim, you can just push it to the left/right with an HPOS adjustment in the service menu. Ideally though, you want to start out by centering the image on the raster, then work outward with other service menu adjustments.
More to follow,

I did my geometry adjustments using an overlay. Once I had those tweaked in I did the 56 point convergence.
The business that I bought my overlays (50 and 65" Toshibas) from is no longer in business or I'd give you link and phone number :(

Although JohnnyG no longer has a store, he still has overlays. See the site below: Click for overlays at the bottom. Prices are C$.

Thanks 57U, I'm glad he's still there! I wish there were more people like him out there.

Update:
Did a search on this forum for "overscan", and pulled together enough info to give it a go.
Very simple actually - all I needed to do was adjust HIT and WID in the service menu, then a small adjustment in HPOS (as Ovalnut suggested). I did need to redo the service level convergence, but now I am at ~3% overscan, image is dead center, and the geometry of the convergence grid looks great.
It seems that once you get up the nerve to do one of these improvements, it is much easier than you had thought it would be.
Thanks to all,
Kevin
