I have pretty well decided on purchasing either the 65 or 57 inch Toshiba HDX - just need to find a local that will take the 65 back if it is too big for my room
The one thing I really have issue with (on this set as well as others) is the protective screen and it's reflectivity. I actually can regulate the light in my roon fairly well BUT this is not a dedicated HT room. We do a fair amount of "Joe-sixpack-type" viewing and it can be fairly bothersome to constantly have the shades drawn, especially on weekends during the day.
Now I am all for removing the protective screen BUT would like to consider my options if I decide that the protection is needed.
1st - in removing the screen I have been hearing and reading about SCREEN SAG. What exactly is this? Does removal of the protective screen truly cause a physical weakening of the lenticular/fresnel screen support structure, causing them to droop from the affect of gravity and lack of support? And if this is true, is the effect reversible or does it cause permanent damage?
2nd - are the cleaning requirements for a HDTV screen any/much different or more critical than for the old standard 4:3 screens? Wondering if maybe NOT having a protective screen will require additional cleaning of the screen, to the extent that it is problematic. I do not remember these protectors much existing until now...
3rd - are there any more of you that have any experience with replacing the protective screen with a sheet of the photographic non-glare material, like that used to cover framed pictures. Seems that the installation should not be much trouble and I could see where it would do a good job protecting the screen without the glare. But I believe one would need to install this sheet directly against the TV screen for the best visual effect. Is there any inherent problem with this material being right against the display screen? Does there need to be some room to breathe here?
thanks kids, as usual
