Hi. I don't know if this model is avalible in the US, but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about it.

I wanted to connect a computer to it, through the HDMI port, using a HDMI > DVI cable, but people have been telling me it won't work.

It does have a VGA port, but it's limited to 1024x768, and I obviously want to use the full 1366x768.

Can anyone tell me if connecting through HDMI will work?

Here's the manual: Download (http://skiny.co.uk/files/text/Toshiba%2032WL48X.pdf)

Thanks for your help,

Skiny

You may get it to work, but may not be worth the effort or expense.

IMO, use the VGA.

Well the HDMI > DVI cable is pretty cheap, so thats not much of a problem. The VGA port would leave black bars on either side of the screen.

The VGA port would leave black bars on either side of the screen.

Why is that?

I'm not sure, but thats what it says in the user manual.

I guess I'm missing something. I saw no direct reference that VGA will produce 'black bars' and HDMI would not.

Also, why would HDMI provide 1366(?)x768? I also saw no reference to that specification.

On page 7 of the manual, it gives information on connectiong a PC to the screen through the VGA port. On the left hand side, it shows what resolutions can be displayed, and 1024x768 seems to be the max.

It says nothing about connecting a PC through the HDMI port, but it does say it will accept 720p.

I saw that spec, which reinforces my suggestion that you use the VGA connection.

But... based on your opening post's questions in regard to 1366x768 and also black bars, I'm still confused about what you are really trying to acheive and perhaps your concerns/confusion.

I simply want to connect a computer to the screen, and not have any black bars.

VGA would give black bars on either side of the screen.

the tv does not have the horizonal res for the pc, thats why its capped at xga res. independant of the input it will down convert to xga, thats just the way it is...

Yea, through VGA. It says nothing about about that with the HDMI port.

My guess is that if you a successful establishing a connection from the PC to the TV converting DVI to HDMI, you will still get 'black bars'.

It probably says nothing about that with the HDMI port because HDMI is not (AFAIK) a 'standard' computer audio/video interface. VGA is the de facto standard for computer video (and perhaps DVI in some applications).

Why not buy the conversion cable and try? Keep up informed of the results.

Typically you need a utility like PowerStrip to accomplish this. Lots of info over on AVS forum.
