View Full Version : Thinking about a 62HM84 (long)

I have seen the 52 inch model, but am thinking seriously about the 62 inch model to better fit my entertainment room. The viewers will be sitting about 14 feet from the screen.

The room is 15 feet wide by 22 feet long, and is very bright during the daytime, as there are lots of windows.

Any reservations about this model? My only reservation is the apparent lack of a cable card slot. Don't like the cheap silver color much. I have looked at the 52 inch model against the Mitsubishi and the latest 50 inch Samsung. Both the Mitsu (52525, I think) and the Toshiba stood out, one winning one moment and the other winning the next, depending on programming.

I don't think I could live with the Mitsubishi in my room unless I removed the reflective screen protector.

What is the experience with ordering these from the internet stores and setting it up yourself? Is spending at least 10% more to have a local dealer worthwhile?

Finally, does the DC projector lamp used by Toshiba translate into any longer time between failure, compared to the other DLP television lamps?

Though I am not an extended warranty fan, any words positive or negative about these plans?

You are now trying to talk yourself, or have someone talk you into buying this set, when it is not what you really want. Don't spend that kind of $ when you won't be satified 2 months from now. Rule out the 62hm84, and then continue your search. Get one with a cable slot and not the old fashioned plastic silver case.
thank you thank you vury much

1. Personally, I buy local. If there are problems it is much easier to deal with.

2. Go for a big screen. I have a slightly larger room and run a front projector with a 119" screen. A 65" (or larger) would do nicely with plenty of room for your surrounds and rears.

3. Personally, cable card slots and built-in tuners are not an issue. If you go cable or satellite you will most likely be using their boxes. You'll probably want a DVR/HD DVR somewhere down the road anyway.

4. Extended warranty. On my Tosh 65HDX82, no. On my projector, yes. On my 2000 Dodge pickup, yes. On my 2004 Santa Fe, no. On my 1997 Camry, no. There is no correct answer.

The Dodge warranty paid for itself twice in 3 years (I win).

The Toyota has been to the dealer once for a timing belt (I win).

The 65HDX82 is at my daughter's home and it two years old, no issues (I win).

The Toshiba projector is a year old, no issues, (I lose, so far and hope to continue to lose :)).

5. Projector lamps, someone else will have to weigh in on those. I'm waiting for the prices to drop before I buy a spare. I imagine they all use a similiar if not the same technology.

Just my opinions and worth what you paid for them :)
