View Full Version : Terrible quality of 30HF84 and the even worse customer service

I recently purchased a Toshiba 30HF84 HD-ready TV at $716.99 from amazon.com and from the very first day I received it, I found this TV has serious quality issues. To summarize, the geometry is so inaccurate none of the vertical lines are straight. The horizontal lines near the bottom are out of place, too. The picture on this TV is extremely grainy under all situations. It makes my progressive dvd, and xbox, ps2 games(fed through component inputs), and gamecube and dreamcast games(fed through s-video inputs), look terrible. This TV's pictures are even worse than those on my 3-year old 27" Philips analog TV, not mention a Philips HD-ready TV I owned before. There are also many pixelations around edges and some out-of-focus problems. Since Sept.9, I have called Toshiba and my local service center numerious times and tried to let them service the TV. I waited about 5 weeks and finally got two technicians come to my home to see the TV on 10/12. They did nothing to repair the TV and said they need to ask Toshiba first.
When they were in my house, they did admit my TV has problems but they
cannot fix it. But they changed the story later and told Toshiba there
is nothing wrong with my TV and no service will be performed.
Today(10/15) I even spoke to a supervisor named Andrew Trebbec but it still
didn't work. They said if I need 2nd opinion, I need to pay myself to find
other technicans to take care of my TV. Otherwise, my case will be
terminated. Now I am stuck with this defective TV because Toshiba refuses
to admit my TV is problematic and refuses to repair it. I haven't able
to contact the technicans since 10/12 to ask them why what they told
Toshiba is different from what they told me in my home. I feel so
frustrated during those contacts with Toshiba and I can't tolerate it any more. Toshiba's customer service people seems polite but actually do not care about the customers at all.
I trusted Toshiba's product and service before and that's why I bought
this TV from amazon.com, an online store that doesn't take the return
of large TV even it has quality issue. I am now deeply dismayed at not
only the poor quality of my new TV, but also the lack of help what so
ever in this regard and the fact Toshiba is trying to deny the existence
of problems on my TV.
This is the worst TV I have ever seen and this is the worst company and
customer service I ever dealt with. It is out of my expectation that a
company can so mean to a customer.
If by any change you are still interested in this TV, do yourself a favor and buy the TV from a local store that can accept the return in case you get a defective TV. Then you don't need to spend tons of time and energy to fight with Toshiba.

Do a search on this site for the model number. There are a lot of people with "problem sets"... But, there are also apparently some happy campers.

Ah, I see by your posts in the other threads that you found them...

BTW, posts are a lot easier to read if you put in paragraphs.

One of the reasons NOT to make major purchases over the net...unless you're willing to take the risk.

I agree here, buy it at a retail store. One thing though with this TV, I don't have a lemon but there are some geometry issues. I can't get perfectly vertical lines but everywhere I look now I can't see any from my 27" JVC, my in-laws 32" Toshiba and my CRT monitors at home and work. It's the nature of cheap CRT tubes and a 30" HD monitor for under $1000 is going to have some issues even if they are tolerable on the sets that are within spec.

Hello,

I purchased this tube from a local store here in ct. for 863.99 plus tax last friday.I got home took it out of the box and hooked everything up( HD cable, DVD w/ component cables) I went about my merry way and adjusted the picture with the THX analyzer found on many DVD's. Iwatched a couple movies and did not notice anything. I was watching some nascar and football and noticed an overscan line on the left hand side the next day.I fiddled with everything and the only thing that fixed was to turn the contrast all the way up to the nuclear fusion setting. I did some more digging on the web and low and behold alot of other people are having the same problem. I took it back today 11/13/2204 and paid the extra $144 for the Sony 30hs420. Hooked everything up took a quick look at everything all I have to say is WOW MAN!!!! what a difference. I figured how bad could it be when I picked up the Tosh. Never again.I am in the now defunct IT/Support business and was always sceptical on toshiba pc products fro the 3 or 4 years QA/QC problems I guess it continues with the TV's. Lesson learned don't bother with this set at all just get the Sony.
