View Full Version : Clocks ticking, 46H83/84 or 46HX83?
OK, I've read the posts so here's about where I am.
It sounds like the 84 models loss some ground on quality so I'm leaning 83. Next is H vs HX, here I'm reading mixed signals.
I've found what seems to be some really good deals on online refurbished units.

$1,049.45 - delivered. It's at least $100 less than any other vendor I've found.
Oddly the HX is less expensive that the H.
Has anyone heard of this site?

First, I can't recommend a refurbished CRT RPTV because you have no idea what abuse the guns have taken already before you get your hands on it...
Secondly, I own an 57HX83 (though it's been in the shop since 9/1 and I'm starting to forget what it looks like  ) and IMHO the picture quality is better then the 57H83 and it's got a reduced glare protective screen where the H83 looks like a mirror. You could always remove the screen on the H83 but that's not always feasible if you have kids around that might damage it... As for the H84's, haven't heard any complaints about lesser quality over the H83's yet personally...

Just recently got my 46H84 set ... I am VERY pleased with the picture (even right out of the box). I did go through the DVE optimization and the convergence. It really helps - an absolute must.
No white line issues, no distortions in geometry. Very pleased.
Don't have any valuable input on the HX series. I would listen to other owners, but I can say that the H84 is a really good choice.

If there is a substantial difference between the price of a refurb and new--at least-25-30 percent ,then a refurb is a good bargain. Most refurbs are new tv's that have falied in the first weeks.
Compare it to a car that was returned for loose bolts and you come and by it later with the bolts tightened at a 3rd off. I would stay away from floor models..to much abuse from long hours of displaying endless loops at high outputs.
I would make sure that you are purchsing from a reputable dealer and have sometype of extended warrenty for piece of mind. BTW nearly all my electronic purchases, as well as applianaces have been refurb or open box.
