Hi everybody, I recently purchased a Toshiba 65H84 projection tv. I went into service mode, to adjust my overscan and geomerty and everything is good. Only problem was first time I went into service menu, I forgot which key was to go down the list, and which key was to adjust. I ended up changing values on certain items, and have no idea which ones they were or they orginal valuses. The only ones I joted down were HPOS, VPOS etc.... If someone who owns the 65H84 or 57H84 could please jot down the orginal values of the list and post them please. If anyone can help me out that be great, I am sure I only messed up around 3-4 settings, but its on the back of my mind, that I did somthing and now my pictures is not good. So if anyone can help that be great, thank you.

there are no specific factory settings. Each TV is different. What specific changes did you make. Was the RCUT changed or BRTC? I may be able to help yopu out of it but I need to know specific items changed.

The problem is I dont remember what I switched. But it doesnt make sense that their is no factory setting. How can every tv be differnt. I am assuming, to make all tvs with differnt default setting in the service menu, would require, someone going in making changes before shipping them out. Is this what happens. I thought the tvs came with certain factory pre-sets, like the contrast-tint,brightness on all the 57H84 would be the same, so why wouldnt the service meny settings be the same as well. Now I am really confused.

To answer your question, I think their is a list of 30 some settings, and when I was messing around with the keys, I ended up changing a few which I cant remember. That is why I was hoping to get somone who has only adjusted overscan (HPOS, VPOS) and left the other settings the same, so I can just copy them over on my tv.

Hope this helps, but let me know, if I am misunderstanding somthing. THANK YOU.

It seems that faheem doesn't want to acknowledge that each TV is different, and that there are changes made to each TV during the "setup" at the factory to compensate for variations in manufacturing.

I already advised him in the following thread. What he's trying to do now is get information to avoid a drive to a store..

Bad faheem5!
Go sit in the 'timeout chair'! :)

There are plenty of facts and (FAQ's) here and elsewhere about the good and bad points of 'service menu' adjustments.

Read, write and adjust at your own risk (in that order).

You can equate HDTV's from the same factory, make and model to twins.

They come from the same factory, look the same, but are different individuals and each requires a adjustment.

57U: You never told me in the previous thread, that each set at the factory is comesnsated for varations during manufacturing. You just stated that each tv is differnt, nothing about why. That is reason why I asked WHY are they differnt, and I cleary stated I was assuming they are the same, because factory pre-sets in the picture meny tend to be the same. And you are right I am trying to avoid, a 50 min drive each way, that is why I cleary asked for a favor.

Ratman: I realize that this situation is my mistake, and I have admitted to it. I know from reading here, and other forums, and that is how I knew how to get in the service menu to adjust my overscan, but for a second I forgot which key was to move up and down, and which was to adjust, that is when I made some changes.

So now that you guys are saying that each tv is differnt, is it worth it to go to the store and copy down all the other service menu adjustment, and copy them over to my tv???

I guess it depends on if there's anything currently "wrong" with your TV. What do you need to correct and perhaps we can assist?

Your first post only says "picture not good".

Well I am thinking the picture is not good as it can be, because I have accidentaly done something. I am also considering just exchaning the tv, as it still hasnt been 30 days. But the image is very soft, and dark scenes are very hard to see. Movies like Matrix etc... This is only from DVD through component cables, my hdtv is going to be hooked up tomm. So ill see how the picture looks tomm.

This is my first post, so bear with me. I just received my 65H84 a couple of days ago. I have not adjusted it. If you can send me an e-mail and tell me how to get into the screen you were in and exactly what you need I can look and send you a reply with all of the information.

Thanks for your help 65h84, I had my tv switched out, since their were other probelms with it. But to get into the service menu do the following.

1. Hit mute on the remote.
2. Hit mute on the remote again.
3. While holding mute down for the third time on the remote, press menu on the TV.

You will see a S on the screen, that means you are in service menu. If you hit 7 you can adjust the gemotry. Hit menu, and you will a name with a value (ex. RCUT 0H) you move down the list with channel up and down, and adjust with volume. MAKE SURE YOU GO DOWN THE WHOLE LIST AND COPY ALL THE ORGINAL VALUES. I did this for my second tv, and then adjusted my overscan. Good luck

Please watch what you are doing. Do not use the wrong control. Volume up and down VS channel up and down. If you do not know which does what better read up. http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/brandspecific/toshiba/servicemenu/servicemenu.html
