The specs for the Phillips 30pw850h show 1050i as the line doubled resolution, Why? Does this mean that it cannot do 720P?

so you can reduce motion artifacts like jagged edges and stair stepping, viewing material in progressive scan (480p) or a line doubled (1050i) picture.

Probably a typo. Should have read 1080i.

No he's right, the philips set i'm selling also has that feature, why could'nt they just add the extra 30 lines?

The following site says 1080i. 7th bullet.

http://www.electronics-expo.com/product.jsp?x=30PW850H

I still think it's a typo. 1050i doesn't make much sense. I mis-type 5 for 8 all the time.

I do recall some direct view TVs (a few Sonys) of a few years ago that did 960i when they did upconversion - that made sense because it was 2 times 480.

Here's a site that says 1050i. Could be correct - could be something "weird" about this set, but since it does 1080i, I can't see why they'd upconvert to 1050i. A lot of times the various sites copy information from the manufacturer, so if that first "doner" site had the typo, it'd be transferred to all the other sites...
