EDTV Question, DAEWOO 42" Plamsa DP-42SM

I recently purchased a DAEWOO Plamsa 42" EDTV. The picture quality is great with DVD, however, my current cable box only has composite outputs. If I upgrade to HDTV Cable (with HDTV box with Component Output), will be able to view the HDTV signals in EDTV? (does it downgrade automatically)

I just want to be able to hook up with component instead of composite because the cable tv quality is OK, but I am thinking I would see an improvement if I hooked up the cable box to tv with component hookups. (component hookups are only available on HDTV cable boxes with Comcast, at least that's what they told me)
