Hello everybody ...
This is my first post so bear with me please.
I recently purchased a Philips Plasma 42" (42FD9954) with the E-Box (FTR9965). Now here is my problem:
When I set my DVD player to Progressive (480P) and use the AV4 or AV5 inputs on the E-Box (they are components), I get an occasional horizontal flicker line on the bottom on the screen specialy on fast moving scenes.
When I set it to Interlace (480I), everything is fine but the quality is not as good compared to Progressive.
When I connect the DVD straight to the Plasma, everything is fine for Interlace and Progressive.
Do I have a defective E-Box ? I know it's not the DVD player since I've gone through 3 of them (different brands) and the result is the same.
Any suggestions out there will be highly appreciated.
Thanks. :)

Welcometo HDTVoice bombets  ...
Did you connect the DVD players to your AV4 and AV5 when you were checking???

Splicer,
To answer your question .. yes, I had the DVD connected to the E-Box AV4 in progressive (480P) ... result, flicker at the bottom of the screen. Swithced the connection to AV5, same thing ... flicker ... this thing is driving me nuts.
Been calling Philips tech support several times and they keep walking me through all sorts of settings to get the problem resolved with no success.
Right now I have the DVD connected to the E-box using S-Video in Interlace Mode (480I). Picture is descent but not as good as it is in progressive.
I guess my last resort is to get a technician to come and look at it with hope that he can fix it and not make the matter worse.
I really like the E-box with all its functionality and perhaps I can just live watching DVD in interlace mode until HD-DVD comes out.
Oh by the way ... sweet set up you have ....

:D You know how to get on my good side :rofl2: !!!
have you tried the DVD player set to interlaced, the E box to progressive and turned any 3:2 pull down off (if your set has this option)???The only thing I can think of is that if the progressive is turned on, on all the compenents (tv, ebox, dvd) that that may be just too much. You only need to have one of them turned on. Also I wonder if what you are seeing is caused by a bad cable???
You said DVD hooked straight to the TV is perfect. Possibly the cable you use to connect the ebox to the set is bad/loose connection??? Also, 'S' video is great on SD (4:3 analog) TV's, but I am not so sure it is as quality driven on the new technology we are watching/playing with. I would use component cables all the way around. From DVD to ebox, ebox to TV... :sherlok:

Spicer ... sorry wasn't able to reply sooner ... anyway, here is where I am at with this problem.

Ans> Yes, this set up works fine (except for turning off the 3:2 pull down since there is no option for me to turn it off). This set up although works, is not as clean if I have the DVD in Progressive (where I run into the annoying flicker).
The only thing I can think of is that if the progressive is turned on, on all the compenents (tv, ebox, dvd) that that may be just too much. You only need to have one of them turned on.
Ans> When I switch the DVD to Progressive 480P, the E-box automatically shuts down all its extra features (Pixel Plus, Active Controls, Dynamic Contrast etc.). When the E-Box detects a Progressive or HD signal for that matter, the only control it gives you is Brightness, Contrast and Color Temp. So, you cannot have the DVD in Progressive and E-box in progressive at the same time (I explained this to the tech as well).
Anyway, right now, I have the DVD set up in Interlace connected via S-video in AV3 and e-box set to Progressive (like I said, this works okay). I'd like to use components for the DVD but I cant since I have my Motorola HD cable box connected to the E-box AV4 and the only component left is AV5 which is dedicated to HD or Progressive signals only.
I am going to leave well enough alone for now and just wait for HD-DVD then I can use AV5 and I will be a happy camper :guiny:
Thanks for all your input ....
