View Full Version : Broken audio on Tosh 50H72? (long)

Received my new Tosh 50H72 sunday. Love it so far (except for football on Dish - don't go there!) Anyway, was watching LOTR dvd last nite after the kiddies went to bed and had the sound level at "0" (not muted). During the birthday party for Bilbo, there is a huge fireworks explosion and a dragon appears and shoots over the crowd (very cool indeed). Anyway, the TV made "crackling" or "distortion" noises during this (and any) loud scene with lotsa low-end audio. The noise was coming from the speakers - like they were distorting or something. Is this normal? Cause it sure didn't sound normal to me. Maybe a cable problem? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also, my DVD player is a JVC vintage 1999 or so. When watching the above movie in 4:3 (according to the JVC setup menu) and "normal" mode on the tv, I got THREE bars on the top/bottom of my screen - Gray then dark gray then black then the movie. I want to watch in the OAR and don't mind black bars - but three of 'em??? Weird. This happend in every tv mode I used. The only way I could get "normal" letterbox was setting the JVC to think it was outputting to a 16:9 moniter (via the setup menu) Any ideas? BTW I have the JVC hooked up via component cables but am not really confident that it is a progressive player. Maybe that has something to do with it.
