I am very close to purchacing the 65HDX82 (new model with DVI) and I was wonderng if anyone had an opinion on it. Is there another HDTV in that price range ($3000) that you would recommend?
Also, anyone know if Echostar/Dishnet has a HD receiver with DVI out?
Thanks.
I have had my 65hdx82 for one week now, and I love it. the only problem I am having is with the natural mode. long story short, it does not recognize my dvd signal as 16:9, it thinks it is 4:3. so i currently have to strech what it thinks is 4:3 to fill the screen. it still looks great. I am going to have a technician come and look at it. it seems to be a fairly common problem for the HDX line. I was impressed with the analog upconversion. digital channels look very good. HD signals are amazing. I would highly recomend this set, even though I have the one problem with it.
I think the sound system is good, but I dont really have anything to compare it too.
I paid $2599(online, so no tax) for mine plus $300 for shipping, and $500 for a five year extended warranty that cover lightning, defect, and everything except me physically breaking it.
I don't know about the DVI Echostar question.

I got mine, too! I love it. Lord of the Rings looks just amazing. I also got a Panasonic DVD (RP62) with progressive scan. It's a cheap DVD player, but seems to rated quite well. I have not hooked it up to an HD signal. Dishnet regular signal IMO looks terrible now. I can see all of the color blotches, etc. I paid $2999 locally, and the 5 year warranty for only $99! Tax was about $300, so it sounds like we paid about the same. I can't wait to get an HD receiver.
when you play a dvd, do you have the same problem with natural mode showing in 4:3 format?
I think the natural mode refers specifically to only 4:3 where as the full is the standard viewing mode for 16x9. The other three modes are the different strech modes for viewing a 4:3 image in a 16:9 format or a 16:9 format with a 4:3 frame. The manual states otherwise but I believe it is simply a typo on Toshiba's part as every single Toshiba set I have ever seen has this problem. (I work for Sears and have seen a fair share of Toshiba TVs)
I've had my 65HDX82 for two weeks now and am loving every minute. My DVD player is a Toshiba 4800, it is set to 16X9 and progressive is enabled. I also use the FULL mode to view 16X9 enhanced movies. The manual says use NATURAL but that doesn't display properly. At the dealer we tried Sony, Toshiba, Onkyo and Panasonic DVD players and FULL properly displayed the movies on all the HDX demo units.
The DISH 6000 receiver does not have DVI. Its rumored that a new receiver is coming out around march 2003. A PVR unit with two tuners, the PVR will do HD. (RUMOR?)
Panasonic is supposed to be coming out with a local only HD receiver for around $300-400. No SAT receiver, local only. I cannot find any reference to this on the net. Can anyone verify this? (RUMOR?)
Thanks,
Lee
