If it is a HDTV, believe me, it would say in the description of the product. With you saying nothing says HDTV, my guess is it isn't. :smokin:

This site says HDTV ready.

I would assume that for the price, it is HDTV. I don't recall any direct view widescreen TVs that were not HDTVs.

It's really weird though that in a lot of the links it says nothing of HD - mentions component video inputs, but that doesn't guarantee HD either.

I can't find anywhere it says HD - so I would guess not...for a couple of dollars more, you can get HD,,,check Pannys or Sony widscreen Hdtvs

Follow 57U's link. HDTV is clearly stated. :smokin:

My Grand Wega is "HD Ready" meaning it requires an additional STB to get HD. I think "HD ready" and "HD compatible" are the same thing.

If the set comes with an ATSC tuner built in it is marketed as an "HDTV" but if it requires an additional STB from your cable company or sat provider than it is marketed as "HD Ready".

This is only what I have been told from a friend that works at future shop so it may be wrong, but it sounds logical to me...

Site says HDTV ready which means it has a built in tuner for HD programming. For $900 it ought to wash the dishes as well! :smokin:

HDTV ready does not mean it has the tuner built in, it actually means the opposite. Check out this link to the 50 inch model of my TV, which I know for a fact does not have a tuner built into it.

Just thaught I would clear that up so others dont get confused.

You are correct Max. I deleted my post. I was typing faster than I was thinking (again, DOH!). :smokin:

This is the second TV that has created confusion in the last two weeks. One site says HDTV and another does not. When in doubt, go to the mfg web site. You can also look at the specs. If it displays 720p or 1080i, then it is HD. Be careful that it does not just say that it "accepts" 720p and 1080i. Those are not HD, they just accept HD signals and then downconvert them. Many of the cheaper ED plasmas are that way.

I think MAX made it pretty clear, but it does not hurt to reinforce this point:

HDTV means tuner built in.

HDTV ready or compatible (same thing) means that you need to add an external STB or tuner. If you're going the route of Sat or cable, this is what you want.
